Where is Agbani Darego?

In 2001, Agbani Darego was crowned Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria. In November that year, she became the first Nigerian to claim the Miss World title. Darego's victory was widely welcomed in her home country, Nigeria and her one year tenure included goodwill trips and scheduled appearances on behalf of the pageant, and a national honour of OON. 

Due to her busy work schedule, Darego left the University of Portharcourt  and later relocated to New York. In New York she was signed to Next Model Management and Ford Models. She enrolled at New York University where she studied Psychology, and graduated in May 2012.
 

Reports coming from 'Wedding Digest Naija' states categorically that on Wednesday 18th September, 2013, the beauty queen turned entrepreneur, as she opened the doors to the 'AD' Showroom in Lekki Phase 1 to members of the press. 'AD' by Agbani Darego embraces a luxurious and chic aesthetic that’s affordable with cuts & styles that are flattering to a range of body types and silhouettes. “It is a line that caters to the ease we require of our personal style and it is intuitive to our body, style and pocket needs” says Agbani.

According to the report, Media faces like Zandile of AfricaStyleDaily/fashion journalist at HuffingtonPost and now Deputy Editor, HelloMagazineNigeria and Editor/Entrepreneur, Noble Igwe, Entrepreneur/fashionista, Elohor Aisien were present.

Darego hails from Abonnema, Rivers State, and was born into a family of eight children. At ten, Darego was sent to a boarding school in a bid to shield her from her mother who had breast cancer. Darego's mother died two years later, and her daughter has spoken of how the loss prepared her for the future. As a teenager, Darego longed to be a model, and despite her conservative father's wishes, she auditioned for the M-Net Face of Africa modelling competition, but was not chosen as a finalist. After finishing her Secondary education, she attended University of Port Harcourt where she was studying Computer Science and Mathematics.

Darego has judged numerous pageants, and fashion and modelling competitions including Miss England 2002, Mr. Scotland 2002 and Elite Model Look Nigeria 2012. In 2010, she launched a style and fashion reality show Stylogenic on a Nigerian television, and three years later (2013) opened her showroom.
