According to Fox News report, Christiano Ronaldo is the current highest paid footballer in the world, closely followed by Lionel Messi of Barcelona and Argentina. The report has it that The Real Madrid star recently signed a five-year contract extension with the La Liga giant, making him the highest paid soccer player in the world, having agreed to a $206 million deal that will keep him in Spain till 2020.
While addressing the media, he said, "It's a very special day for me. I'm very grateful, above all to the president and to my fans who always support me. It's for them that I will continue on here until what could be the end of my career."
Ronaldo has been very prolific in the colours of Real Madrid, scoring goals almost at wheel. He has scored 204 goals in 203 games for the Club; no wonder he is simply the darling of the fans. He has scored more than 50 goals in each of the last three seasons for the Club.
The Portuguese International Star joined Real Madrid in 2009 from Manchester United of England on a record transfer fee of $124 million. Since then, he has inspired Real Madrid to win one Spanish league title, one Copa del Ray and one Super Cup.
